Amorim has a 'maverick' Man United star who has never lost to Tottenham, he must start tomorrow
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has lavished praise on summer signing Matheus Cunha.
Cunha has scored only one goal in ten appearances, but his impact has been far beyond what statistics show.
Amorim told Men in Blazers: “Cunha is a maverick. Cunha does things that are hard to find in some players, because he plays with the ball.
“But he has an aura that can do something to the opponents’ heads, and that is really important.”
The Portuguese coach also showered Bryan Mbeumo with praise, calling him a key reason behind United’s attacking transformation this season.
Mbeumo also won the Premier League Player of the Month award for October.
Amorim said: “Bryan is really direct, and we missed that last year.
“You can sense when the ball is going to our defender.
“He is already running to position. This kind of small thing that people don’t see is massive to turn our team into a more dangerous team.”
Cunha has a special record vs Spurs
United will face Tottenham Hotspur on the road in the Premier League tomorrow.
The Brazilian has faced Tottenham four times previously and has never lost to them in his career.
With one goal and one assist, he has recorded three wins and a draw against the North London side.
He is expected to retain his position in the left-sided number 10 role.
Cunha is a fast learner, and that is evident from the in-game tactical changes he has been making over the last month.
United were repeatedly exposed in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro unable to cover every blade of grass.
His work rate and adaptability have drawn admiration from the coaching staff, while his mentality and fighting spirit have rubbed off on his teammates.
United lacked a character like him who plays with a positive ego and a swagger that is key to elevating the culture of the dressing room.
