Pakistan Arrests Four Suspects Over Deadly Islamabad Court Attack

Pakistani authorities have arrested four suspects linked to the Islamabad court suicide bombing, which killed 12 people, with the attack allegedly coordinated from Afghanistan by TTP commanders.

Pakistani authorities have arrested four individuals suspected of involvement in a suicide bombing at Islamabad’s judicial complex, which killed 12 people and injured several others, officials said.

The attacker, identified as Usman or Qari, was an Afghan from Nangarhar. Officials said suspect Sajidullah claimed the operation was ordered by TTP commander Saeed-ur-Rehman, allegedly coordinating from Afghanistan.

The arrests were conducted in a joint operation by Pakistan’s intelligence and counter-terrorism agencies. Authorities did not disclose the precise locations of the arrests. The TTP has yet to comment on the detentions.

The incident follows previous claims by Pakistan that Afghan nationals were involved in the 2023 Wana Cadet College attack, which killed three Pakistani soldiers and all attackers, highlighting cross-border militant activity.

Pakistani media stated that the TTP increasingly exploits Afghanistan’s territory to plan and execute attacks in Pakistan, taking advantage of porous borders and weak oversight.

While the Afghan Taliban have not directly addressed the arrests, they have previously condemned attacks in Islamabad and Wana, reflecting ongoing diplomatic sensitivities and the complex security dynamics between the two countries.

Experts warn that continued cross-border militancy could heighten tensions in the region, complicate counter-terrorism efforts, and place additional strain on Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
