Grammy Nominee Jubilant Sykes Dead at 71 After Stabbing, His Son, 31, Taken Into Police Custody (Report)

Grammy nominated singer Jubilant Sykes was reportedly stabbed to death on Monday (December 8) and his son has been taken into police custody.

The 71-year-old classical and gospel singer was apparently found dead at his home in Santa Monica, Calif.

“Officers arrived and contacted the reporting party, who directed them into the home where they located an adult male with significant injuries,” Santa Monica Police Lt. Erika Aklufi said in a statement (via Variety). “The suspect, the victim’s son, Micah Sykes, 31, was found inside the residence and taken into custody without incident.”

He’s apparently being booked on suspicion of homicide.

His neighbor and friend, Sammy Murphy, described one of his sons as a “bad man.”

According to KTLA, a weapon was recovered on the scene.

Jubilant received a Grammy nomination for his performance as the Celebrant on the 2009 recording of Bernstein: Mass.
