Homo-free Egypt and Iran drawn to meet in 2026 WC group on Seattle’s annual Pride weekend

December 10 – Seattle’s local organisers for the 2026 World Cup are facing an unexpected complication after the tournament draw placed Egypt and Iran into the city’s designated ‘Pride Match’ – an event scheduled long before team assignments and entirely independent of FIFA branding.

The Group G fixture, set for June 26 at Lumen Field, had been earmarked as a celebration of the city’s LGBTQ+ community to coincide with Seattle’s annual Pride weekend.
