Six residents displaced in Walnut Creek house fire

WALNUT CREEK — Six residents were displaced Wednesday morning after a fire at their home, officials said.

The residents, all adults, were able to get out on their own before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

The fire started about 6:37 a.m. Wednesday at the home in the 2100 block of Stewart Avenue.

It initially started in the garage area but spread to the house, officials said.

When the first of about 20 Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters arrived on the scene, flames and heavy smoke were coming from the home, said spokesperson Lauren Ono.

The fire was declared under control shortly before 7 a.m.

The cause is under investigation. A damage figure has not been released.

The displaced residents were being assisted by the Red Cross.
