NFL fans of all ages recognize the star quality attached to the name Brett Favre.

During his career, mostly with the Green Bay Packers, he had 321 consecutive starts from 1992 to 2010.

He set a record for the most in league history.

He also hit 70,000 yards, 10,000 passes, 6,000 completions, 500 touchdowns and defeated every other team at one point.

But his Christmas message, delivered early Thursday on social media, took another direction, the direction of the Bible’s message.

“For more than 20 years I put my hands up in celebration on the gridiron. Now, I put my hands up to the One that gave me all my talents and abilities — the King of my life, Jesus Christ. I’ve never claimed to be perfect, but my aim is for the direction of my life to honor Christ and I pray my faith increases. So I do want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, whether you’re solo, with family, or friends, and if you haven’t done so, put your faith in Him who can save, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 [8] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast,” he wrote.

Favre played at Southern Mississippi during his college years and went to the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 1991 NFL draft.

He became a starter for the Packers in 1992.

His totals at retirement gave him the NFL lead in passing completions, passing attempts, passing yards, passing touchdowns and wins by a quarterback.

He was chosen for 11 Pro Bowls and inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
