Shocking CCTV Footage Of Deadly Rampur-Nainital Highway Accident Emerges!

Near Pahadi Gate in the Ganj Kotwali area of Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, a loaded truck carrying husk overturned on a Mahindra Bolero SUV. Video obtained by police and eyewitnesses and since being circulated on social media shows how a truck mounted the SUV and completely crushed it.

In the CCTV clip, the truck is seen travelling in reverse from the rear of the Bolero before tipping on its side and toppling onto the vehicle. The Bolero was travelling on the right side of the road at the time of the incident. It takes just seconds from when the truck loses control and mounts the SUV before toppling on it and causing the death of the driver.

Death toll & Rescue operations

Driver Firasat, who was in the Bolero at the time of the collision, has since been identified by the police as the victim. The driver’s body was only recovered after heavy machinery, including a crane and JCB, were used to lift the truck. It was then recovered by fire tenders and given to the family after being sent to the district hospital.

The local Superintendent of Police (SP), Vidyasagar Mishra, has issued a statement that the driver’s body has been sent for post-mortem and that his family has been informed. The vehicle had been impounded and taken to the police station for further investigation. Traffic on the NH-87 was also affected for a few hours following the accident, with reports stating that movement on the highway was restricted while emergency responders cleared the scene.

Accident causes & prevention

At this point, the police have said the driver of the truck may have been overloaded, or that the vehicle was moving at an excessive speed when the collision happened, which caused it to overturn on the highway turn. The SP, Vidyasagar Mishra, also mentioned the need for the driver to have passed an appropriate driver training course. In both instances, it is clear that the driver failed to observe road safety precautions while on the highway.

In addition, the highway police suggested that roads like NH-87 need to have better supervision and more warning systems. This is because the roads in this area attract a lot of commercial traffic, and this oversight could easily lead to another major incident. Many of the public who have reacted to the CCTV clip also called for authorities to improve road signage, speed limit signs, and speed control measures. It has also been suggested that more regular road safety audits are performed in the areas where these types of collisions are common.

Road Safety Issue after fatal Rampur-Nainital highway collision

In the aftermath of the news of this Rampur-Nainital highway accident, many members of the local community shared messages of condolence and urged authorities to take harsher action to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. One of the issues discussed was that many similar incidents have happened in the last few months. Collisions were common on state highways and national highways in recent months, and most of them involved overloaded trucks, which resulted in the death of drivers.

Road traffic collisions remain a problem in India, and highway authorities need to step up to the mark. Roads like NH-87 are shared with trucks, which can be dangerous when heavy vehicles are driving alongside family cars and SUVs.
