Report: Hornchurch

This was an excellent, hard-working performance from the Stones who are now unbeaten in five league matches, having conceded just one goal in the process.

Hornchurch looked dangerous in the early stages. On ten minutes, a corner from former Maidstone player Tom Wraight eventually came to Henry Sandat who shot wide.

Not long after this, Arthur Nasta was tested for the first time. A decent cross from Leo Hamblin was met by Riley Court and Nasta made a fine save, flinging himself to his left.

But with 20 minutes gone, another lovely cross from Hamblin lead to the opening goal. This time his ball towards the back post was headed in by Sam Corne for his second goal in two games.

Maidstone’s lead didn’t last long though. Nine minutes later, a mix up at the back enabled Junior Morias to put Angelo Balanta in on goal and he calmly finished past Nathan Harness.

Morias was involved again, not long before half time. He put Henry Sandat into a good position only for Harness to make a superb save.

Not long after the restart, Court did well to move into space. He drilled the ball goalwards but Nasta did well to parry the ball away from goal.

The Stones nearly got into trouble at the back again on 58 minutes as Taylor Foran left the ball but Lexus Beeden rescued the visitors with a well timed challenge and clearance.

The game was swinging from end to end, and Harness had to be alert to block a shot from Morias. And close to the end of normal time, Wraight went within inches of scoring for Hornchurch with an effort from just outside the box.

Then one minute of stoppage time, Maidstone grabbed the winner. Substitute John Gilbert sent a cross into the box which was dropped by Nasta and Kargbo reacted quickest to stab home from close range.
