Thomas Frank sends message to Tottenham fans after yet more full-time booing

Thomas Frank has revealed whether he thought Tottenham’s performance against Sunderland was deserving of the boos his side got after the final whistle.

Boos have become commonplace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, given the team’s poor performances and results at home.

We heard them for the first time from away fans last Thursday as Thomas Frank was booed loudly by Tottenham supporters after the 0-0 draw at Brentford.

Spurs played with much more intensity and attacking intent in the first half against Sunderland, but reverted to type in the second period, throwing away two points, and unsurprisingly, the final whistle was once again greeted with loud jeers.

Thomas Frank appreciates Tottenham fans’ backing of the team

Frank had admitted that he was surprised by the boos against Brentford, but he gave a much more diplomatic answer about the reaction of the fans against Sunderland.

The 52-year-old insisted that he was happy to see the crowd getting behind the team during the game and felt that the fans acknowledged the improved first-half performance against the Black Cats.

When asked if Tottenham’s performance on Sunday warranted the boos from the crowd, Frank responded (via Football.London): “Erm, what I said many times, I liked the backing of the fans for the team throughout the 90 minutes. I think that was excellent and pushed us forward in many ways.

“I am sure everyone could acknowledge, especially first half was positive and a step in the right direction, getting in good areas, doing the right things, and I am 100 per cent sure everyone could acknowledge the effort and hard work of the players. That is all you can ask for, and then we’re all a little disappointed that we couldn’t get the three points.”

The booing becomes performative and pointless after a point

It is understandable for fans to boo if they feel the tactics were too conservative or if they feel there is a lack of intensity or effort from the players.

However, neither was the case on Sunday as Tottenham played with attacking intent and pressed the opposition well until they ran out of legs in the latter stages of the game.

It feels like the home fans are now going to boo after every bad result, and it is looking like it is going to be very difficult for Frank to win back the supporters.
