At least three people were killed and six others wounded in a shooting incident in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to the Express Tribune, the attack took place in the Bannu district, where assailants riding motorcycles opened fire on a group of people in a public area.

Emergency services rushed the wounded to nearby hospitals, while security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation following the attack.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the shooting, and authorities have not yet disclosed the identities or possible motives of the attackers.

The incident comes just days after four police officers were shot dead in Bannu, raising concerns over a renewed wave of violence in the district.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed frequent militant and criminal attacks in recent years, particularly in districts bordering Afghanistan, where security challenges remain high.

Bannu has been repeatedly targeted by armed groups, with police and security personnel often facing attacks amid ongoing counterterrorism operations in the region.

Security analysts warn that continued violence could further destabilize the province, urging stronger intelligence coordination and enhanced protection for civilians and law enforcement.

The latest shooting underscores Pakistan’s ongoing struggle to contain armed attacks, as authorities face mounting pressure to restore security and prevent further bloodshed.
