Ego-bruised Trump is making momentous decisions based on Nobel snub: professor

Donald Trump is trying to make up for his Nobel Peace Prize snub by taking Greenland into American control, an expert has claimed.

Michael Clarke, a visiting professor at the Department of War Studies at King’s College London, told The Telegraph that the president is looking to massage his ego after he was snubbed for the Nobel award. Venezuelan María Corina Machado received the award instead.

Machado, Venezuela's opposition leader, says she is willing to give the award to the president, though the awards body has confirmed the prize "cannot be revoked, shared or transferred".

Without the Nobel Peace Prize, it appears Trump has changed tack and is looking to make massive land grabs in parts of the Western Hemisphere.

Clarke said, "It might be a way of giving Trump the sort of victory that he wants, so it has a plausibility. The real issue is that Trump wants to add a big chunk of territory to the United States so that he gets his face on Mount Rushmore."

"He’s not going to get the Nobel Peace Prize, so he wants another sort of prize."

Clarke has also warned that even giving the U.S. further sovereign bases on Greenland would be seen as a massive loss.

"NATO will have suffered because of that — the fact that they’ve had to buy him off — and Denmark will have suffered, so NATO would still come out of this weaker,” he said. “But it would not be as destructive as the possible alternative.”

Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) came under fire earlier this week for drafting a bill to allow the president to seize control of Greenland. Fine confirmed the bill was being worked on in a post to X.

He wrote, "Huge News! Today, I am proud to introduce the Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act, a bill that allows the President to find the means necessary to bring Greenland into the Union."

"Let me be clear, our adversaries are trying to establish a foothold in the Arctic, and we can’t let that happen. By acquiring Greenland, we would prevent our adversaries from controlling the Arctic Region and secure our northern flank from Russia and China."
