A message from the chairman

We are extremely sad to have to report the passing of one of our long-term supporters and volunteers, Brian Wilkinson. He was 87.

Brian had been involved with the club for many, many years and would be seen at Watling Street, turning his hand to anything that needed fixing. He was an active member of the Supporters Association in the 1970s and 80s.

When Princes Park opened, Brian would spend a lot of his time making things and fixing things. He’d turn his hand to anything. Many of you would have seen him manning a turnstile on matchdays and he was a big supporter of our women’s side, attending as many home games as he could.

Personally, I had known Brian since around 1973/74, when he and his late wife Pearl, ran the youth club at Fleetdown Community Centre.

His son-in-law Trevor and grandson Grant, have been supporters of the club for many years too. Grant can be seen here with his grandfather.

Our condolences go out to the whole family and there will be a minutes silence on Saturday at the Aveley game, to remember the life of a great supporter, Brian Wilkinson.

Steve Irving
Chairman.
