Kiefer Sutherland arrested for alleged assault of rideshare driver in Los Angeles
“24” star Kiefer Sutherland was arrested this week for assault following an alleged altercation with a rideshare driver in Los Angeles.
Sutherland, 59, was arrested early Monday morning around 12:15 a.m. in the Hollywood area after police responded to a radio call of an alleged assault on the unidentified driver. Police said the incident occurred after Sutherland entered the vehicle near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.
The actor was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony criminal threats, according to TMZ and NBC Los Angeles.
No other details about the incident and its preceding circumstances were made available, though the LAPD confirmed no injuries requiring medical treatment were reported. An investigation is ongoing.
According to online records, Sutherland was released later on Monday on $50,000 bond and is due back in L.A. County Superior Court on Feb. 2.
The Canadian actor has had a number of run-ins with the law.
In November 2004, Sutherland was sentenced to five years probation, fined $500 and ordered into an alcohol treatment program after pleading no contest to drunk driving. He was later jailed for 48 days for a 2007 DUI and was also arrested in 2020 on suspicion of DUI after making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
In 2009, charges against him were dropped after he was accused of head-butting fashion designer Jack McCollough at a Manhattan party.
Sutherland is the winner of two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Special Agent Jack Bauer in “24.” He’s also known for his roles in films like “The Lost Boys,” “A Few Good Men,” and “The Phone Booth,” as well as the TV series “Touch,” “Designated Survivor” and “The First Lady.”
