Best Buy preps shutdown in San Jose ahead of fitness center opening

SAN JOSE — The Best Buy store at Santana Row in San Jose is preparing to close its doors and eliminate dozens of jobs as a fitness center gets ready to take over the space.

The retail store’s closure is expected to eliminate 60 jobs at the 3090 Stevens Creek Blvd. location, according to an official notice the company sent to the state Employment Development Department.

The cuts are scheduled to take effect around March 17, the WARN notice shows. The layoffs are permanent because the store is closing.

At least some of the 60 affected employees will have the opportunity to land jobs at another Best Buy location, according to the WARN notice.

Life Time, a company that describes itself as an “athletic country club,” has already signed a lease to occupy the space that Best Buy will vacate.

The building totals 60,000 square feet and is two stories, according to Property Shark. The initial term of the lease is 15 years, Santa Clara County public documents show.

“Santana Row is a great location,” Meghan Akradi, a vice president of real estate with Life Time, said during a June 2025 interview with this news organization. “It’s hard to do better than Santana Row in terms of iconic properties.”

The future San Jose location is expected to feature an array of amenities, according to Life Time.

“We will have great fitness areas, fitness studios, personal training sites, yoga, pilates, cafe, work lounges, a sauna, and hot tubs,” Akradi said. “We will have a kids’ academy.”
