Netflix Cancels Critically Acclaimed Celebrity Series With a 94% Score After Two Seasons

Since it became a streaming service, Netflix's production of its own programming has been one of the keys to its success. Despite that, it has been revealed that 111 Netflix Originals will be leaving the company's media library in 2026. Now, it has also been announced that a celebrity-driven comedy series that was a huge hit with critics has been canceled by the company.

On January 21, 2026, Deadline reported that Netflix had canceled its comedy series, The Vince Staples Show. The decision was likely linked to its relatively low viewership numbers. The outlet states that the show never charted on Netflix's Weekly Top 10 and that it ranked No. 1,446 on Netflix’s Second Half of 2025 viewership. According to that report, the series only received 1.7 million views between its November 6, 2025, season two premiere and the end of the year.

The first season of The Vince Staples Show, which consisted of five episodes, premiered on Netflix on February 15, 2024. The following year, on November 6, 2025, the six-episode second season of the show debuted. Focused on a fictionalized version of the real-life rapper Vince Staples, an article on Netflix's website states that the surreal series shows him "navigate life as a kind of famous, kind of rich, kind of criminal (but not really) rapper."

A major hit with critics, The Vince Staples Show earned a 94% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on critic reviews. The show also appealed to viewers, as proven by the fact that it has a 88% Popcornmeter rating based on reviews from Rotten Tomatoes users.

The same Deadline article that revealed the cancellation of The Vince Staples Show also reported that Netflix has canceled The Abandons. The series also failed to get the viewership numbers that the streaming service would have wanted to see. According to the outlet, The Abandons only received 19.8 million views in the 28 days after the western series was initially released on December 4, 2025.

The show, which was created by Kurt Sutter, starred Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson and only lasted for seven episodes. Sutter is best known as the creator and showrunner for Sons of Anarchy, as well as playing pivotal behind-the-scenes roles in other series, like Mayans M.C., and The Shield.
