Oakland man allegedly taunted brothers as ‘millennials’ before he shot and killed them one by one

OAKLAND — A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of three counts of murder for allegedly killing two brothers and a third man in a 3 a.m. shooting outside an East Oakland liquor store, court records show.

Darrell Genesis Tatmon, who police say is known around town as “Dutch,” was arrested in the killings of brothers Luis Antonio Valdez-Gomez and Kevin Andrew Valdez-Gomez, as well as the killing of Miguel Angel Ramirez. The Alameda County District Attorney’s office is expected to review the case Friday afternoon. Tatmon is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, and tentatively set to be arraigned on Monday, records show.

All three victims were shot and killed outside the sky market on 85th Avenue and International Boulevard, allegedly after the brothers attempted to purchase marijuana from another person who was outside the store, authorities said.

The marijuana dealer, an apparent friend of Tatmon, got into an argument. Police allege that Tatmon taunted the others as “millennials,” punched Kevin Valdez-Gomez in the head when his back was turned and then took out a pistol. Valdez-Gomez allegedly produced a gun and fired at Tatmon, but was quickly disarmed by two other men on Tatmon’s side of the conflict, authorities said.

That’s when police say the killing started. Ramirez was reportedly shot during the initial confrontation and struggle over Kevin Valdez-Gomez’s weapon; it’s unclear from court records who allegedly fired the fatal shot. But then Tatmon killed the brothers, first by shooting Luis Valdez-Gomez, then waiting for Kevin to exit the store, shooting him once in the head, then standing over his body and firing at least one shot into his chest as he lay on the ground.

Ramirez survived the initial shooting but died later that morning at a hospital, authorities said. A GoFundMe page in his memory says he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, and was a frequent customer at the store.

“Our dad didn’t deserve this. He wasn’t involved in anything, just someone going about his life. He was a father, a loved one, and a man who mattered,” the post says, later adding, “One moment he was here, and the next he was gone. No warning. No chance to say goodbye. Our hearts are broken, and we’re doing our best to lean on God to get through this pain.”

Authorities are still working to identify the other parties present. They searched Tatmon’s Instagram “@dutchdamac,” as part of the investigation, authorities said.

In 2021, Tatmon was observed loitering outside a liquor store directly across the street from the Sky Market with two other men, one of whom subsequently shot and killed Edward Morgan, 41, of Oakland, during a confrontation. Police haven’t identified the shooter but they did arrest Tatmon on gun charges are part of that investigation, court records show. Another bystander the homicide, seen conversing with the suspected shooter beforehand, was a man who won an appeal in a murder conviction in 2015, but was recently charged with attempted murder in an Oakland nightclub beating.
