I'm not in total alignment with your viewpoint. I think the world is changing but I don't think war is imminent. There is a realigning of alliances. That doesn't automatically equal war.
The mentality of humans is completely different now to 80 years ago. As you say, people are unprepared for war, and I think most people in Europe and the US don't have the stomach for it. I'm not saying that would prevent countries from getting involved by the idea of a world war II style flooding of bodies across borders... I just don't see it. I don't see governments effectively being able to implement it.
I'm also sceptical the billionaires are up for it and the cost that it would mean for them. They have profited from large pockets of global harmony. I'd imagine they would be proactive in trying to product their interests. There won't be a lot of people googling or fannying around on X if they're lying in trenches whilst the lights are being cut off.
