'I don't think it was a bad performance' - Thomas Frank risks annoying Tottenham fans again
Thomas Frank is facing renewed pressure from Tottenham Hotspur supporters after his team failed to defeat Burnley, but the manager has made a big claim in his defence.
Tottenham Hotspur have been appalling in the Premier League this season and suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham last weekend.
However, there was optimism that Spurs might be an improved side after an unexpected 2-0 triumph over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Despite this, a trip to Burnley proved a tough task for Tottenham, as they were forced to fight to the very end just to claim a single point from the fixture.
Thomas Frank makes bold claim about Tottenham’s display
Although Spurs were unable to repeat their Tuesday night heroics, Thomas Frank seems fairly happy with the way his team played.
Tottenham’s overall performance was not the issue, according to the Dane. Rather, it was particular moments when they made mistakes which allowed the opposition to take advantage.
Frank told Football London: “You said one more bad performance? I don’t think it was a bad performance.
“It was maybe not the result we hoped for. I think the performance, if you look at it throughout the game, especially the first half, was good. The way we ended the game, good. Average second half, which you’ve seen many times.
“Then unfortunately it lacked with two moments where we didn’t defend it well enough. That’s what we are working very, very hard on, to try to get on top of. While we are fighting everything we can to perform in the Champions League and Premier League. That’s the way it is.”
Frank must consider the game as a whole
There is a clear problem with Frank’s assessment of Tottenham’s draw with Burnley, because he is minimising the issues with his side’s overall performance.
The Spurs manager has branded blatant defensive concerns as two individual moments, and he has failed to address a continued lack of creativity and imagination. Instead, he chooses to label a pretty awful second half as average.
Such assessments will do nothing to make Tottenham improve and win more points. If Frank thinks Spurs were average in that second half, they will have to be unbelievably good to come away with anything against Manchester City a week on Sunday.
