Beach hazards statement for Bay Area Shorelines from Wednesday to Friday – sneaker waves possible

Coastal North Bay including Point Reyes National Seashore, San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Northern Monterey Bay and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast as well as San Francisco County were placed under a beach hazards statement by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 7:55 p.m. The statement is valid from Wednesday 9 p.m. until Friday Jan. 30, at 9 a.m.

The NWS San Francisco CA said, “Long period westerly swell will result in strong rip currents, sneaker waves, and breaking waves of up to 19 feet can be expected.”

“Dangerous conditions are forecast along the shoreline. Hazards include sneaker waves, strong rip currents, and large breaking waves,” the NWS said. “Stay off of jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf and NEVER turn your back on the ocean.”
