Tim Sherwood pinpoints three key issues affecting Tottenham’s season, including Thomas Frank

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Tottenham are struggling right now, but Tim Sherwood thinks he knows why it’s all falling apart.

Aside from a fairly positive start to the season, Thomas Frank has not had the desired impact at Tottenham and his job is now on the line.

It is thought Spurs chiefs will give Frank more time to turn things around, but fans are not exactly keen on that idea, given the way things are going.

Supporters have made their feelings clear in recent weeks, and according to Tim Sherwood, they’ve every right to be disgruntled.

Tottenham fans are right to be unhappy

Speaking to OLBG, Sherwood highlighted the manner of the performances and the fact that the club has recruited fairly poorly in recent transfer windows as key factors in frustrating the fan base.

He said: “It’s the consistency of their performances. They keep changing manager, keep the big turnover of players. I don’t think they’ve ever been shy on spending money. It just seems to be what they’re actually spending it on. It seems to be a very disgruntled fan base for a very long time now.”

The problem is, Spurs fans pay more than enough to attend the games, and they’re not seeing that loyalty rewarded on the pitch. Indeed, Sherwood believes fans are right to be feeling bored of the football they are seeing this season.

“They pay their money. You’ve got to entertain them. You’ve got to give them what they want,” he added. “What they want is the team to be playing on the front foot. They want to turn up and pay their money to see someone who’s going to excite them. And I think at the moment they’re being shortchanged.”

Thomas Frank is part of the problem

We all know Thomas Frank’s record as Spurs boss is awful, and Sherwood did not shy away from the fact that the Dane is absolutely part of the problem.

Sherwood continued: “Everyone likes Thomas Frank, but I would ask the question, is it important that everyone likes you? Some of the greatest managers we’ve seen in this country, they’re not necessarily liked by their players, but they’re respected by their players.

“He needs to understand the Tottenham way. And at the moment he’s not playing the Tottenham way.”

Tottenham fans expect attacking, exciting football, and that is not happening right now. The setup is far too defensive, but that conservative, pragmatic approach is not even paying dividends, which means everyone loses out.
