Hannah Dodd Praises Bridgerton Season 4's Very Different Sex Scenes

This article contains minor spoilers for the new season of Bridgerton.

By now, even those who have never seen a single episode of Bridgerton will be familiar with its sex scenes to some extent, whether it’s that “Polin” carriage scene, Benedict’s season three threesome or Daphne’s early-doors masturbation sequence.

And while the sex depicted in Bridgerton is usually of the steamier variety, cast member Hannah Dodd has said she’s happy to be involved in a very different type of scene this time around.

In season four, newlyweds Francesca Bridgerton and John Stirling find themselves struggling to connect in the bedroom – not helped by Hannah’s character’s lack of sexual knowledge, which she’s pointed out would be accurate for this time period.

“John and Francesca have literally met the year before so there’s a lot of getting to know each other but there’s gaps where they’re both introverts,” she told BBC News. “They really have to push themselves outside their comfort zones to even have those conversations.

“It was really nice to actually show the honesty of that in relationships.”

For Francesca, she’s able to lean on some of her married family members and in-laws, who have offered her their expertise.

Hannah enthused: “It was really nice to see Francesca leaning on her female counterparts to go and get that information but it’s this unfair thing where men are allowed to have experience and women are not allowed to have experience.

“Unless you can have those conversations, I don’t understand how women were meant to get this information, physically and anatomically. Francesca doesn’t know what’s meant to be happening!”

It was recently confirmed that either the fifth or sixth season of Bridgerton will see Francesca’s Hannah taking centre stage with her own new love story.

While in the original books, Francesca embarks on a relationship with a character named Michael, the introduction of Michaela Stirling at the end of season three suggested that Francesca’s love story would be the first major LGBTQ+ romance for Bridgerton later on in the story.

The first half of Bridgerton season four is now streaming on Netflix, with four more episodes coming on Thursday 26 February.
