Newark police investigate man’s death as homicide

NEWARK — A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found dead over the weekend in Newark, police said.

Officers initially went to a home on Mulberry Street at 3:38 p.m. Sunday to investigate a suspicious death, the Newark Police Department said in a news release. They arrived to find an unresponsive man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the man only as a 36-year-old Newark resident.

Detectives are investigating the death as a homicide, police said, adding that the circumstances surrounding the case, including the cause of death, are still being assessed.

“The safety of our community remains our highest priority,” police said. “We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and holding those responsible accountable.”
