Man City fans may not like what former referee just said about three Tottenham decision

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has given his take on three big decisions from Tottenham vs Man City.

Spurs looked dead and buried at the interval, with Man City racing to a 2-0 lead and the Lilywhites failing even to lay a glove on them in the first period.

However, the home side fought back admirably in the second half to draw level, courtesy of a brace from Dominic Solanke.

The fight back was even more admirable considering the number of players Tottenham were missing, with Thomas Frank showering praise on Solanke.

Former referee claims Tottenham could have conceded a penalty late on

However, there was a nervous moment for Spurs fans in the dying stages of the game as Erling Haaland appeared to be wrestled to the ground before Man City swung in their corner.

The referee did not blow for a foul, and VAR did not intervene. Dermot Gallagher has suggested that this was because the incident occurred when the ball was not in play.

The former PMGOL official told Sky Sports: “I heard the VAR say that when this happened, the ball isn’t in play, it’s still dead at the corner.

“That’s where Dragusin got really, really lucky because if that had been flighted in there’s no doubt whatsoever the VAR would have [intervened]. He’s not looking at the ball.”

Pep Guardiola and Thomas Frank disagree about a big decision

There was another controversial talking point from the start of the second-half, with Dominic Solanke’s first goal causing a heated debate.

Pep Guardiola insisted that the goal should have been ruled out for a foul on Marc Guehi (Guardian).

However, Frank was adamant that the referee was right to give the goal, insisting that there must be a higher threshold to blow for a foul.

On that incident, Gallagher said: “The big debate at the time was whether it was offside, nobody thought of the foul. The City players appeal for offside. The check was for offside.

“There is no doubt Solanke gets the first touch on the ball. Guehi’s stepped across him.

“It’s got to be an on-field decision. There’s no clear and obvious error.”

Finally, on claims that Rodri should have received a second yellow card, Gallagher said: “Rodri is really, really lucky. His manager then subs him.”
