A young, accomplished Illinois woman and mother with her whole life ahead of her was taken out earlier this week in a truly horrific manner by a low-life thug, who is now in custody.

As NBC Chicago reported, 30-year-old Courtney Drysdale of Momence was shot and killed at roughly 11 a.m. on Monday, right as she was opening her bar for the day.

Momence is a small town of just over 3,000 people, 50 miles south of Chicago.

The suspect entered The Line, a local rural bar along Illinois Route 114 near the Indiana state line, and demanded money at the cash register from Drysdale. While she complied with the demand, the man shot her twice at close range in what police described as an execution-style killing.

The suspect then fled the scene after fatally shooting Drysdale.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey described the event as “devastating and horrific” while vowing to get justice for Drysdale.

“Courtney was deeply loved, not only by her family and her young daughter, but also by the many patrons and friends whose lives she touched,” he said. “This senseless act of violence has profoundly impacted our community.”

“We are fully committed to bringing the person responsible to justice.”

Downey went on to confirm no one else was in the bar during the time of the murder and noted the killer tried to steal a recording device from the wall before running off.

Police later arrested the person allegedly responsible for the crime, taking him into custody in the 6400 block of Rhode Island Avenue in Hammond, Indiana. The suspect has been identified as Julis E. Burkes Jr.

This came hours after police released photos of the suspect, along with the vehicle he was allegedly driving at the time of the incident.

He was last seen wearing a yellow, black, and grey jacket, with a dark-colored hat and glasses.

The car is a silver or white sedan.

Hailey Gershon, a longtime friend of Drysdale who also works at The Line, told ABC 7 Chicago Drysdale was the “nicest person” and would “give up the whole world for somebody.”

“I mean it, she was probably the nicest person. I could always go to her for anything,” Gershon said. “She would literally give up the whole world for somebody and would always be there for everybody, even though she was upset or going through things. She would push those aside for others and, like, make sure they were happy.”

Gershon added that Drysdale leaves behind a fiancé and a school-age daughter.
