The Washington Post lays off hundreds of journalists, losing jobs amid financial crisis

The Washington Post has begun mass layoffs, cutting around one third of its staff in one of the most dramatic newsroom restructurings in its 145 year history.

According to reports, hundreds of journalists have been laid off across nearly every department, including international reporting, metro, editing and sports, with the paper shutting down its sports desk in its current form. The cuts come as the Bezos-owned newspaper struggles with declining subscriptions and mounting financial losses, estimated at over $170 million in recent years.
