US, Iran to Hold Nuclear Talks in Oman on Friday

Iran and the United States will resume nuclear negotiations in Muscat tomorrow after venue disputes were resolved with Oman facilitating diplomatic engagement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that nuclear talks between Iran and the United States will take place Friday in Muscat, Oman’s capital.

Araghchi thanked Omani authorities in a social media post for arranging the logistics and facilitating the upcoming negotiations between the two countries.

Earlier, US news outlet Axios reported the talks were cancelled due to disagreements over format and venue, before later confirming Muscat as the agreed location.

Initial reports suggested the meeting would be held in Istanbul with participation from regional representatives, but Iran requested bilateral talks instead in Oman.

Araghchi and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff are expected to lead discussions focused on Iran’s nuclear programme and potential diplomatic understandings.

Iran and the United States held five rounds of negotiations last year in Oman and Italy, but talks collapsed before a sixth round after regional tensions escalated.

Oman has repeatedly acted as a quiet mediator between Tehran and Washington, hosting sensitive discussions aimed at reducing tensions between the longtime rivals.

Resuming talks in Muscat may offer both sides a renewed opportunity to ease tensions and reopen diplomatic channels surrounding Iran’s nuclear dispute.
