Suspected bomb found in Sonoma State University lake by magnet fisher

A person magnet-fishing found a suspected bomb in the University Lakes at Sonoma State University Thursday afternoon, activating the bomb squad. No one was injured.

Around 5:45 p.m., a “community member” who was fishing in the northwest section of the lake alerted campus officers of a suspected explosive device, said Sonoma State University Police Chief Nader Oweis.

Police immediately cleared the area and put up yellow tape to begin an investigation, calling the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad to assist.

A bomb squad detective took the device to an off-campus facility to render it safe.

“At no time was the community in imminent danger,” Oweis said in a news release.
