‘Jeopardy!’ Spotlights Famous Super Bowl Moment Before Patriots-Seahawks Rematch

Everyone is gearing up for Sunday’s Super Bowl LX showdown between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. “Jeopardy!” prepared viewers for the game by recalling an iconic play from their last championship encounter.

The long-running ABC game show featured a “Super Bowl Memories” category in honor of Sunday’s Big Game. No NFL fan should have had any trouble solving the $200 clue.

“Jeopardy!” turned to Super Bowl XLIX for a sequence that has received considerable attention before the Patriots and Seahawks clash again. Someone behind the scenes must have a cruel sense of humor, as ESPN analyst and diehard Seahawks fan Mina Kimes read the clue.

“Seattle seemingly had glory in sight for a second straight year in Super Bowl XLIX, but an ill-timed pass at the goal line was picked off by Malcolm Butler of this team,” Kimes said.

The show cut away from Kimes’ pre-recorded video to show a famous picture of Malcolm Butler holding the football next to Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette. “Jeopardy!” contestants occasionally struggle with sports categories, but one buzzed in and correctly asked, “Who are the Patriots?”

“Yes,” host Ken Jennings confirmed. “Excited for the rematch this weekend.”

As Kimes narrated, the Seahawks were on the precipice of completing a Super Bowl repeat. Rather than hand the ball to star running back Marshawn Lynch, head coach Pete Carroll called a passing play.

Butler intercepted a Russell Wilson pass with 20 seconds remaining to preserve a 28-24 victory for New England. The Patriots snapped a decade-long title drought before winning two more Lombardi Trophies behind Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel will now attempt to create more fond memories at Seattle’s expense when the Patriots play the Seahawks this Sunday night.
