Man United vs Tottenham Premier League preview, team news and predicted line-ups
Winless in the Premier League for more than a month now, Tottenham Hotspur face an in-form Man United side on Saturday, with pressure mounting once again on Thomas Frank.
Thomas Frank’s men were once again booed off at half-time last weekend against Manchester City, heading into the break 2 goals down. And the consequences could have been far worse had Dominic Solanke not popped up with an incredible second-half brace, featuring a Puskas-worthy scorpion kick, to rescue a point for the home side.
That said, a severely injury-plagued Spurs squad, which found little help in the recently concluded January transfer window, come into this fixture on the back of a 6-game winless run, sitting 14th in the Premier League table.
On the other hand, Manchester United’s ‘new manager honeymoon period’ appears to be in full swing. Michael Carrick’s side arrive on the back of 3 consecutive league wins, including victories over the current leaders and runners-up, Arsenal and Manchester City, before a late 3-2 win against Fulham last weekend, a result that has lifted them to 4th in the table.

Man United vs Tottenham: head-to-head record
The reverse fixture earlier this season was a dramatic affair. Manchester United led for much of the contest before Spurs turned the game on its head with 5 minutes remaining, only for United to equalise with virtually the last kick of the match.
More broadly, United are winless against Spurs in any competition since October 2022, having lost 5 and drawn 3 of their previous 8 meetings. That run also includes last season’s Europa League final, a night Spurs supporters will remember very fondly.
Tottenham team news
Spurs supporters remain furious with the club’s hierarchy after another quiet end to the January transfer window, despite Thomas Frank having just 13 fully fit senior players available against Manchester City.
Pedro Porro, Ben Davies, James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus are all confirmed absentees.
Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Djed Spence could all return to the squad for Tottenham.
Man United team news
Michael Carrick has far fewer problems to contend with. Patrick Dorgu and Matthijs de Ligt remain sidelined, while Mason Mount is nearing a return and will be assessed closer to kick-off.
Predicted line-ups
Tottenham: Vicario; Gray, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Gallagher, Palhinha, Sarr; Odobert, Solanke, Simons
Man United: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fernandes, Mainoo; Amad, Mbeumo, Cunha
Our prediction
One of Spurs’ key attacking outlets to watch will be Xavi Simons. Once doubted and looking unsettled in the Premier League, he now appears increasingly at home. He was Spurs’ brightest spark going forward against Pep Guardiola’s City, regularly winning the ball, driving past his man and creating openings. Carrying that same energy at Old Trafford could be crucial.
For the hosts, it goes without saying that Bruno Fernandes is the danger man. On track to record the most assists in a single Premier League season, the Portuguese midfielder will be desperate to keep that momentum going.
A win here would only see Spurs climb a maximum of 1 place in the table, while a defeat could see them drop further down.
Despite United’s excellent form, Spurs have developed a habit of hurting them in recent seasons, and that history may count for something once again.
Predicted score: Manchester United 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur
