Officials hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a homeless housing project in Chatsworth

Los Angeles City Councilmember John Lee joined housing leaders on Friday to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a new four-story development called The Cielo that offers 99 units of permanent supportive housing to chronically homeless and homeless individuals.

Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, president and CEO of Los Angeles Family Housing, said, “The Cielo offers not just a place to live, but a true home along with the support and services that help restore dignity, foster hope. And create lasting pathways to stability, making it possible for individuals to leave homelessness behind for good.”

Sarah Mahin, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Homeless Services and Housing, said, “Being together to bring positive change to our communities and to the lives of the residents here at The Cielo feels very powerful, and Stephanie, you’re right, we need reasons to celebrate, so thank you for giving us one.”

City Councilmember John Lee said that when he took office, “We had zero housing here in Council District 12. By the end of this year, we will have 500 units of housing. In Council District 12, we realize that housing is part of that solution.”

The development includes on-site support services, a 1,000 square foot community room, a laundry room, a 5,000 square foot courtyard for outdoor activities and barbecue grilling and a dog run for residents with pets. The Cielo was built as part of a $40 million City of Los Angeles HHH Innovation Challenge Award made to LA Family Housing, Abode Communities and Mercy Housing California as a nonprofit developer collaborative.
