The Usual Suspects Lead The Way To Women's Big Air Final

Most of us thought it would be tough to outperform the big three in Women's Big Air. Most of us were right.

Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, Kokomo Murase, and Mia Brookes will enter Olympic Finals day in first, second, and third place. Synnott came out of the gate swinging with a backside 1260 mute grab on her first run, on her way to a 90. She never relingquished that top spot, and threw down to backside double cork 1080s in her next two runs.

Murase opened her day with a frontside triple cork 1280 Indy grab, and later threw a backside double cork 1260 Weddle. Brookes fell on her first run, but put down a backside 1260 melon and a cab 1080 Stalefish to get back into top-three position.

Much of the chatter - both online and in the broadcasts - has been about the size of the jump, which is a bit smaller than past Big Air jumps both in FIS contests and the Olympics. We saw the men spinning less because of that Saturday. It's likely we will not see Murase go for a switch backside 1620 for the same reason.

America will not have a rider in the Big Air Finals. That's not a huge disappointment however, seeing as all three riders - Jess Perlmutter, Hahna Norman, and Lily Dhawornvej - are stronger in slopestyle.

Norman stomped a huge frontside double cork 1080 in her second run, and Perlmutter put down that same trick in her first. Dhawornvej stomped a backside 1080 in her first run, but fell trying the same trick spinning frontside, and had to settle for a frontside 720 in her final run.

Perlmutter stomped a cab double underflip in her second run, but was only awarded a 55.25 for it. She then fell on a double sloth roll try in her final run.
