The Seahawks Are Using a $160K ‘Nervous System Reset’ Ahead of the Super Bowl. Here’s How It Works

From whole-body cryotherapy and liquid nitrogen spot treatments to hyperbaric oxygen therapy, elite athletes have never had more recovery tools at their disposal. Walk through any professional training facility today, and it feels less like a gym and more like a high-end wellness lab. Red lights glow, different kinds of chambers hum, and ice baths are waiting at the ready. Today, recovery has become its own discipline, and for players chasing a championship, it's treated with the same seriousness as the training itself.

That mindset is especially clear during Super Bowl week. After more than 20 weeks of practices, travel, and high-impact collisions, players arrive at the biggest game of the season carrying more than just excitement. Their bodies are inflamed and pushed well past comfortable limits. But with everything on the line, rest alone is not enough. To feel even close to game-ready, athletes are constantly looking for ways to reset their systems and buy back whatever edge they can.

“By Super Bowl week, a player's body is in a state of chronic systemic stress,” says Jake Kirsch, Senior Director of Operations and trainer at ETS Performance. “The physical trauma to muscle fibers and connective tissues has accumulated to the point where no one is feeling remotely close to 100% healthy. The endocrine system is fighting to combat this stress to restore hormone levels and repair tissues.”

That reality is helping drive interest in newer recovery technologies like the Ammortal Chamber. Designed to deliver a physiological, neurological, and emotional reset, the chamber has already caught the attention of top MLB players like Freddie Freeman and Mike Trout, along with athletes from teams including the Seahawks and Patriots. The approach combines multiple proven, noninvasive recovery modalities into a single, immersive session.

“We have stacked our modalities cohesively, addressing the mind at the same time the body,” says Ammortal Partner and Chief Growth Officer Curtis Christopherson. “You listen to a voice that says an intention…[and] get into more of a parasympathetic state. The vibro-acoustic experience allows it to draw you into a state of receivership. When the body is in a state of receivership, it’s less anxious, less stressed… shifted into that rest or digest state. Then your body can heal and fully open up, allowing the benefits of red light, near-infrared, PEMF, and molecular hydrogen to do their magic.”

Inside the Ammortal Chamber

  • Red Light Therapy (660nm (Red); 850nm (NIR); 100mW/cm2) for cellular regeneration
  • Vibroacoustic Sound to harmonize the nervous system
  • Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMF Range 0.5 Hz - 50 MHz) to reduce inflammation and accelerate recovery
  • Molecular Hydrogen (600mL/Min) to combat oxidative stress
  • Guided Breathwork & Visual Meditation for deep mental clarity and relaxation

But this specialized chamber is not just for postgame recovery. Some players are also using it before kickoff as part of their preparation. While modalities like PEMF, molecular hydrogen, and red light therapy are typically used to reduce inflammation and speed recovery, the chamber also includes options designed to upregulate the nervous system when it is time to lock in.

“We don't change the light exposure…it’s quite similar in all experiences, but the fiber acoustics is what actually shifts,” Christopherson says. “So when you're prior to the game, the vibration, intensity of the vibration, and the type of sound…makes the difference in terms of priming the nervous system to get ready.”

In other words, the same technology that helps athletes downshift after weeks of punishment can also help them flip the switch when game time is approaching. It's less about relaxing and more about arriving on the field focused and ready to perform.
