AG: Alameda County sheriff’s deputies fatally shoot man in San Leandro, sparking state inquiry
Alameda County sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a person early Monday morning in San Leandro, and the California Department of Justice is investigating the killing, according to state justice officials.
Multiple sheriff’s deputies were involved in the shooting, which happened at 3:19 a.m. Monday, according to the state Attorney General’s Office, which announced the killing.
The attorney general’s office said that it was investigating the killing under Assembly Bill 1506, which happens when the person killed was not armed.
Numerous details remain unclear, including where the shooting happened and the circumstances leading up to it. It also is not clear exactly how many deputies were involved.
The attorney general’s announcement shortly before noon Monday marked the first public acknowledgement of the shooting.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office did not issue any public notifications about the killing. Sgt. Roberto Morales, a spokesman for the agency, said in a text Monday afternoon that the sheriff’s office would issue a press release, but gave no further details.
