Casting Call Open for Young James Bond. But There's a Catch
Young actors living in the U.K. suddenly might have the chance to become the next James Bond. A casting call has been issued by Big Finish Productions to find a few actors play the voice of a tween version of Bond, for a bold new audio adaptation of the 2005 Young Bond novel, Charlie Higson's SilverFin.
To be clear, this casting call is limited to the U.K., and because of the nature of the Young Bond stories, it makes sense that whoever takes on this voice role will be on the younger side. As the press release states: "Big Finish Productions is now soliciting applications from actors’ agents for the two lead parts in SilverFin. This is an excellent opportunity for young actors to star in a licensed James Bond production."
What is Young Bond?
Launched in 2005, Young Bond is a series of nine young adult novels, written at first by Higson, and later Steve Cole. The series charts Bond's early days, from the point-of-view of the canon of the original Ian Fleming novels. As such, SilverFin takes place in 1933 and finds Bond starting school at Eton College. The books were very popular, and some of the continuity from these books, even snuck into the the Daniel Craig films; in Spectrethere's an Easter egg about Charmian Bond, James' aunt, who is a character in the Young Bond books.
So, although casual fans might consider these books obscure, the stories told in the Young Bond novels are very much connected to the larger saga of Bond, both the Fleming books, with a big of the flavor of the newer films.
Young Bond: SilverFin Release Date
James Bond radio drama or audio adaptations have been a big part of the spy's legacy for a very long time. Former Bond baddie Toby Stephens has been playing the voice of 007 in BBC Radio dramas since 2008.
The new Young Bond audio drama isn't a radio play for the BBC. Instead, Big Finish has been producing high-quality audio dramas — including Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes titles — for a very long time. So, even folks outside of the U.K. will be able to listen to the new version of SilverFin.
As of this writing, SilverFin is expected to be released in September 2026. You'll be able to get these adventures in CD format as well as digital download from the Big Finish website.
