Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes shared a social media post on Wednesday (February 11), one day before Rio’s city hall and the state government scheduled a press conference to officially present this year’s “Todo Mundo no Rio” announcement, per Reuters.

The mayor shared a video of Shakira with the caption “Confirmed!”

People familiar with the production said his post referred to the upcoming performance, according to the news outlet. It’s expected to take place on May 2.

“And 2026… is SHAKIRA at Copacabana on @todomundonorio on May 2nd! And ah… Now we discover that the Mayor @eduardopaes said he wanted U2, but apparently he was just hiding the game to bring @shakira to the biggest stage in the world!!!” Vice Mayor of the city then wrote.

This follows Madonna‘s 2024 performance and Lady Gaga‘s 2025 performance, drawing millions of attendees and breaking records.

Gaga‘s concert brought in an estimated 600 million reais ($115.71 million) to the city’s economy, according to local authorities, per Reuters.

Shakira‘s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour is now the highest grossing Hispanic tour of all time.
