Scott Jennings gets earful from incensed CNN host over Trump official's 'horrible blunder'

GOP strategist Scott Jennings got an earful from CNN host Kasie Hunt on Wednesday after he defended one of President Donald Trump's administration officials.

Last year, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick denied ever having a relationship with the disgraced financier and convicted sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein. However, the Trump Department of Justice's recent release of more than 3 million files from the FBI's investigation exposed Lutnick's personal relationship with Epstein, with Lutnick even visiting Epstein's notorious island, accompanied by his four young children.

Lutnick was forced to admit to the discrepancy in his story during a hearing on Tuesday when asked by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).

Hunt was taken aback to learn that Lutnick's name appeared to have been redacted in the Epstein files.

"You can't make it up, Scott!" Hunt yelled. "You cannot make it up! His name was redacted in these files!"

Jennings defended Lutnick's comments, calling them a "huge F up" from a public relations standpoint.

That comment seemed to further incense Hunt.

"Look, it was a podcast," Hunt said, referring to when Lutnick first denied knowing Epstein, "it's not under oath."

"I agree with you that this was a horrible public relations blunder," Jennings chimed in. "But he did not commit any crimes."
