Tottenham make repeat contact with Mauricio Pochettino over potential return
A new report has shed light on what Tottenham Hotspur are thinking about bringing Mauricio Pochettino back to N17.
Even before Thomas Frank’s sacking, the Spurs fans were chanting Mauricio Pochettino’s name, making it clear who their preferred candidate is.
Pochettino has repeatedly made it clear that Tottenham hold a special place in his heart, doing so most recently in an interview with the High Performance podcast earlier this week.
Reports indicate that the former Spurs manager would jump at the chance to return to N17, and a new update has now shed light on what the decision-makers at the club are thinking about the idea of bringing the Argentine back.
Mauricio Pochettino seen as the ‘unity candidate’ by Tottenham hierarchy
The Indepdendent have now revealed that the Spurs top brass are now conscious of the ‘toxicity’ among the fan base as they get set to decide on Frank’s replacement.
They realise that they need to appoint a ‘unity candidate’ to bring the supporters back onside, with Pochettino emerging as the ‘ideal and obvious choice’.
Some on the Tottenham board are pushing to bring the 53-year-old back right now, and they have made repeated contact with the Argentine since the start of the year.
However, the feeling at the club is that Pochettino will likely not leave the United States until the end of the World Cup.
Spurs accused of not having a proper plan
The Independent say that Pochettino’s immediate unavailability means that Tottenham would consider appointing an interim head coach until the summer.
John Heitinga may ‘step up’ to take the job, but the report asserts that ‘there aren’t too many viable candidates’ at the moment.
The publication quotes one source as saying about Spurs’ current situation: “This sums it up – outside Pochettino, it looks like they don’t currently have a proper plan”.
