Traffic stop at Oakland BART station results in drug seizure, arrest

OAKLAND — A traffic stop by BART police at the Coliseum station Thursday night led to the discovery of an apparent mobile illegal drug store, the seizure of different narcotics and the arrest of the driver, officials said.

Police stopped a 22-year-old Oakland man’s vehicle for expired registration about 8:10 p.m. in the Coliseum station parking lot. Authorities have not said why they believe the man was in the parking lot.

Officials said the man agreed to a consent search and police found 157 grams of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl inside the vehicle as well as two digital scales and individualized packing materials.

The estimated value of the drugs was not released.

The man was arrested on suspicion of five drug-related charges, including possession of drugs and possession of drugs for sale. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail at Santa Rita Jail on Friday and was scheduled to be arraigned in court on Feb. 18.
