Gunmen Kill 32 in Village Attacks in Nigeria

Gunmen attacked three villages in northwestern Nigeria, killing at least 32 people, kidnapping residents, and burning homes during coordinated overnight assaults.

Armed attackers stormed three villages, killing at least 32 residents, with reports indicating some victims were shot while others were killed by throat-slitting.

Police said several villagers were also abducted during the assault, while attackers set houses and community property on fire, leaving widespread destruction behind.

Witnesses told Agence France-Presse that nearly all homes in the targeted communities were burned and at least four women were kidnapped.

Residents reported the attackers arrived on around 41 motorcycles, each carrying two or three armed men, and also burned a nearby police station.

According to the Nigeria Police Force, security forces have begun operations to locate the attackers and rescue abducted villagers.

The violence comes as militant and criminal groups continue to operate in parts of the northwest, worsening insecurity and displacing rural communities.

Authorities warn that ongoing instability, including attacks previously claimed by groups linked to al-Qaeda, highlights continuing security challenges facing rural regions across the country.
