Nearly 3.4 Million Pounds of Chicken Products Sold in Trader Joe’s Being Recalled

Heading into the weekend on Friday, February 20, grocery shoppers were hit with some interesting news about frozen chicken products sold at popular grocer, Trader Joe’s. According to an ABC News report,  U.S. Agriculture Department officials are noting that a Portland, Oregon company that sells chicken products at Trader Joe’s is issuing a recall, claiming that almost 3.4 million pounds of chicken products may contain pieces of glass.

Allegedly, the recall is not only on meat sold in Trader Joe’s stores in the US, but it’s also been issued on some chicken products sold in Canada as well. So what should you be checking your freezer for?

Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. has pulled Trader Joe's Chicken Fried Rice from stores across the United States. The frozen 20-ounce bags usually contain vegetables, fried rice, eggs, and chicken. However, packages with best-by dates between September 8 and November 17, 2026, are considered “affected packages” and could contain glass (items are also stamped with the establishment number P-18356, which is located inside the USDA mark of inspection). Again, as reported by ABC News, “Consumers should avoid eating the product and throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased.”

Additionally, frozen Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Rice in cardboard packages containing six bags are also being recalled. The product is sold exclusively in Canada, and has a best-by date of September 8 through November 17, 2026.

Has Anyone Been Harmed from the Chicken Products?

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. The recall seems to have been issued after four consumers complained of finding glass in their food.
