Trump Weighs Limited Military Strike on Iran to Pressure Nuclear Deal, Officials Say

U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a limited military strike on Iran to increase pressure for a nuclear agreement, according to U.S. media reports.

Fox News reported on Friday that Trump, speaking during a White House working breakfast with state governors, said he was “considering” military options when asked about possible action against Tehran.

The remarks come as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue over a potential draft nuclear deal, with Iranian officials saying a text could be finalized within days following talks in Geneva.

Trump had earlier warned that “bad things” would happen if no agreement was reached within 10 days, later extending that timeline to 15 days, while also ordering an increased U.S. naval presence in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the draft agreement would be handed to the U.S. representative once finalized, adding that no demand for a complete halt to uranium enrichment had been made in the talks.

Tehran maintains its nuclear programme is peaceful and seeks relief from sanctions that have heavily strained its economy, while Western governments accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, an allegation it denies.

Tensions have escalated in recent weeks, with the United States reinforcing its military posture in the region and warning that Iran must not enrich uranium at any level.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has warned that any U.S. military action would make American bases and facilities “legitimate targets,” underscoring the risks of escalation.

Despite sharp rhetoric and military signaling on both sides, officials say diplomatic efforts continue, with both governments publicly expressing interest in reaching a swift agreement.
