Connor McDavid's Wife Delivers Final Message Before USA, Canada Gold Medal Game at Olympics
Canadian superstar, and Sidney Crosby captain stand-in, Connor McDavid is dominating the competition as Canada prepares to face off against the United States in the gold medal game on Sunday morning.
He has 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in five games, the most points in a single Olympics involving NHL players. With Crosby out for the semifinal contest against Finland, McDavid wore the C on his chest as Canada mounted an epic comeback to win 3-2 despite falling into a 0-2 hole early.
“It’s been great,” McDavid said. “The hockey has been amazing, the level of competition, the parity between all the countries has been very good. Close games, exciting, and now it comes down to one game with two very good teams."
Connor McDavid's Wife Lauren Delivers Final Message
McDavid's wife, Lauren, has been with him every step of his dominant Olympics and isn't stopping that support any time soon. On Saturday, Feb. 21 she posted a video to social media showing her getting ready for the semifinal contest against Finland while adding a final message before the gold medal game.
"Grwm ❤️???????????? ready for the finals!! Go Canada go!!!" she said in the caption of the video posted to Instagram just 12 hours before Canada's gold medal game against the United States.
McDavid Faces Off Against a Familiar Foe
Just one year ago, McDavid stood all alone in front of the net when he rifled a shot past United States goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for a 3-2 win to take home the 4 Nations crown.
At the time, he admitted it wasn't an Olympic medal, but it still meant the world to both he and the team.
“Just to see the reaction. Just to know what it means to us. I know it’s just a quick tournament, and it’s not an Olympic gold medal or anything like that, but it means the world to our group, as you can see,” McDavid said.
One year later, McDavid is guaranteed an Olympic medal, but one question remains: will it be gold or silver?
The United States and Canada face off at 8:10 a.m. ET.
