The FBI Has Reached an Important Conclusion About Video Evidence in the Nancy Guthrie Case
When it was reported that new footage from the night of Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping had been discovered, it seemed like a very big deal. Reports revealed that a neighbor's home captured video of 12 cars driving in the area during the window of time that Nancy Guthrie was taken. While the timing raised hopes, TMZ reported on February 27 that after examining the video footage, the FBI deemed it to be a dead end. The outlet cited a source connected to the investigation.
Since the Nancy Guthrie case first started, a piece of video evidence has often appeared to be the most important lead that investigators have going for them. From the outside looking in, doorbell camera footage of the masked suspect tampering with the device has stood out as the most striking lead so far.

As a result, learning about the footage of the cars driving by seemed like it could be just as big of a deal, if not bigger. After all, being able to link a potential culprit to one of those vehicles could have narrowed the investigation significantly. That is why learning that the FBI doesn't believe the footage will create any leads is a major twist for observers.
That said, there is still a very good reason to have hope that additional video footage could be what turns the tide in the Nancy Guthrie case. On February 26, NBC News reported that the FBI has amassed as many as 10,000 hours of footage in the investigation. While none of that other footage garnered the headlines that the vehicle video did, some of it could turn out to be far more impactful. Hopefully, investigators will find the evidence equivalent of a needle in the haystack of that footage, if there is one.
