Powerful Explosions Heard in Saudi Capital Riyadh

Loud explosions reported in Riyadh as regional tensions rise, with no immediate confirmation of casualties or official explanation.

Agence France-Presse reported that loud explosions were heard in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Journalists and residents said the blasts were heard in the eastern part of the city.

There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage resulting from the explosions. Saudi authorities have not yet released an official statement detailing the cause.

The reported blasts come a day after Iran allegedly launched attacks on Riyadh and an eastern Saudi province following recent U.S. and Israeli strikes. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry previously condemned those attacks as “unjustified” and “cowardly.”

Iran has initiated waves of missile and drone strikes targeting U.S. military bases across the region, including in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq. Several of these countries have described the attacks as violations of their sovereignty and reserved the right to respond.

Regional tensions have escalated sharply after recent military confrontations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, raising fears of broader instability in the Gulf.

Videos shared on social media appear to capture flashes and loud sounds over Riyadh’s skyline, though official confirmation and independent verification remain limited.
