Iranian Strikes Hit US Embassy in Kuwait, Smoke Billows Over Compound

Fire and thick black smoke were seen rising from the vicinity of the US Embassy in Kuwait on Monday after Iranian missile and drone strikes targeted multiple sites across Kuwait. Sirens sounded across parts of the capital as emergency teams rushed to the scene and authorities urged residents to remain indoors.

A witness living near the diplomatic compound said smoke was clearly visible over the neighbourhood shortly after dawn. Video circulated by international news agencies showed smoke billowing from inside the embassy grounds while alarms wailed in the background, heightening fears of further escalation in the region.

Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said it intercepted an unspecified number of drones, but officials confirmed casualties from the broader wave of attacks. The Health Ministry reported one death and 32 injuries linked to Iran’s retaliatory strikes, which followed recent US-Israeli military operations.

The embassy issued an urgent advisory warning American citizens of a “continuing threat of missile and UAV attacks” and instructed them to shelter in place. Diplomatic staff were also ordered to remain inside the compound. The advisory explicitly warned citizens not to approach the embassy until further notice.

Meanwhile, Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency claimed that a US F-15 fighter jet had been shot down over Kuwait, though there was no immediate confirmation from American officials.

The latest strikes come amid a rapidly widening regional conflict following joint US-Israeli attacks inside Iran that reportedly killed senior leadership figures. Tehran has since launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting US military bases and allied facilities across the Gulf.

Tensions have sharply escalated across the region, with several Gulf states activating air defence systems and tightening security around strategic installations, airports and diplomatic missions.
