Chart-Topping Rapper Says Jim Carrey Was “Snatched” and “Replaced”

Despite reps for the César Awards and TV and movie star Jim Carrey both speaking out to confirm that Carrey was indeed present at the February 26th award show, the rumor mill continues to speculate to the contrary. Fans on social media are still perpetuating this confirmed theory that The Mask actor was not in France for the ceremony but was somehow swapped with a body double. 

Adding to those voices now is Grammy-nominated rapper Wiz Khalifa. He decided to take to social media and actually expressed his belief that Carrey was “snatched” and just “replaced.” The rapper was likely just joking, but you can make your own judgment call. 

What Happened with Jim Carrey at the 51st César Awards?

Before we get to the Khalifa of it all, back on February 26 in Paris, France, at the 51st César Awards, Carrey appeared to receive a lifetime achievement honor. The Golden-Globe winner has largely become reclusive in recent years, shying away from the public sans movie premieres. So it was going to be quite the delight for fans to see him receive the French recognition. However, once social media users noticed that Jim Carrey looked slightly different from how he had previously, conspiracy theories popped up all over social media. People went so far as to think that the Carrey present in Paris was a “clone.” 

Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the Cesar Awards, responded to the speculation, telling Variety: 

“He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson, and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again. For me, it’s a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”

To add, Jim Carrey’s publicist Marleah Leslie told TMZ, “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”

Wiz Khalifa Weighs in on Jim Carrey

While talking to fans live on social media and smoking an unconfirmed substance, Khalifa offered his two cents on the Carrey rumors. The rapper stated: 

“Aye what happened to Jim Carrey, man? You seen that fool, yo? They saying he ain’t himself no more, man. They saying they got Jim. He do look different though, I ain’t gonna lie. What it seems like to me is the real Jim Carrey got a little bit ahead of himself, he got a little out of control. He was talking too much. So they had to snatch him, and they had to put their Jim Carrey in his place, so that he can give out the right message that they want people to hear. But don’t quote me on that, because I don’t want them to snatch me and give y’all a fake me.”

You can check out the video clip below and draw your own conclusion as to whether or not Khalifa’s theory has any validity. On a personal note, I don’t believe the incomparable Jim Carrey was body-swapped.
