Demi Lovato & Keke Palmer Recall Dating Much Older Men as Teens: 'Why Was My Boyfriend 30?'

Demi Lovato and Keke Palmer are recalling what it was like being teenagers dating much older men.

The two singers spoke about their similar experiences as child stars on the newest episode of the Nope star’s podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer.

Keke mentioned she started dating at 15.

“I’m 15, why is my boyfriend 20?” she said.

“Why was my boyfriend 30?” Demi chimed in.

“I’m not smiling at that, but that is real. We was trying to find outlets, though,” Keke responded.

Neither woman names the boyfriend in question, but Demi had an on-again off-again relationship with Wilmer Valderrama that is believed to have started when she was about 17 years old and he was 29.

She says her song “29″ is about having a relationship with an older man, and it is believed to be about him. She mentions it during the podcast with Keke and says the other actress will likely be able to relate.

Keke also gives a shoutout to Hilary Duff and her new song “Mature,” about her own experience dating a much older man as a teen.

In the podcast, Demi says looking back in “hindsight” makes it even appalling.

“But then you look back in hindsight. When I turned 30, I was like, that’s not okay,” she said.

Keke agreed, adding, “The moment when you realize, and you get to the age of a lot of people that were around you and doing stuff, it’s almost a mental break that can happen because you realize you were taken advantage of. Oh, I was being exploited.”

She continued, “At 15, I’m thinking, like, my boyfriend’s older because I’m doing an older job. I’m doing a bunch of things, and this is the way that it is and it seemed normal in my mind.”
