Legendary Reality Series Cancelled by Network 17 Years After Premiere

MTV has announced the cancellation of one of its signature reality shows, declaring the upcoming season will be a "farewell season" — despite the protests of its core cast.

Jersey Shore first premiered on the network all the way back in 2009, and became an instant pop culture smash, making household names out of its stars, such as Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Pauly D, real name Paul Michael DelVecchio Jr. At the height of its popularity in 20212, MTV pulled the plug on the original series, despite all the "Guido" and "Guidette" slang making its way into the global lexicon, as well as the spin-off shows, Halloween costumes, and more making its way through the mainstream.

In 2018, however, the network brought back the series with the new title Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. The original cast all returned for the revival (although in various capacities), older, but not wiser, with kids and spouses in tow. The show is gearing up for its 8th season, with 218 episodes now under its belt, far more than the original's run. However, MTV has just announced the 8th season will be its last.

Mtv Said ‘Jersey Shore: Family Vacation’ Will End Soon — But the Cast Say They Will Continue

“This farewell season marks the culmination of a franchise that entertained millions with major life milestones, laugh-out-loud chaos, and the unfiltered chemistry that defined an era of reality television,” MTV said in a press release on Wednesday, March 4.

However, the end of the New Jersey residents' adventures aren't over yet, according to the cast. "Legends don’t retire — they reroute. ????," Snooki wrote in response in an Instagram post. "The network changed. The legacy didn’t. Jersey Shore is forever. Just wait until you see what’s next," she teased.

“WE ARENT DONE YET!!!! Stay tuned everyone. We love you all,” fellow cast member Angelina Pivarnick commented on the Jersey Shore Instagram page. “Stay tuned to our next move. It’s a big on,” Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino said similarly.

“Final season on MTV,” Pauly D teased, with emphasis on the latter two words.
