Dog’s remains found at scene of Fremont fire

FREMONT – The remains of a dog were found at the scene of a small fire Tuesday in Fremont, police said.

The fire was reported around 9:05 p.m. in the bicycle lane of a bridge near the intersection of Niles Boulevard and Linda Drive, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Officers arrived to find firefighters had already extinguished the fire. Firefighters reported finding the remains of a “minimally burned” dog at the scene, police said.

As of Wednesday, police did not know if the dog died in the fire or was dead prior to the blaze.

No people were injured.

Officers searched for a person seen near the fire but did not find anyone matching their description.

Police said the remains of the dog were transported to the Tri-City Animal Shelter in Fremont.

An investigation is underway and officers are continuing to pursue leads, police said.
