2010 Hit Voted ‘Worst Song of the 21st Century'

Justin Bieber's "Baby" was ranked the worst song of this century, according to a list compiled by TheTopTens.

The single was released in 2010 and marked the beginning of Bieber's career as an international star. The singer was just sixteen years old when the song came out, but that didn't stop it from being a massive commercial success.

'Baby' Was The Beginning of A Legendary Pop Career

"Baby" was released as the lead single from Bieber's debut album My World 2.0, and it immediately cemented the Candian teenager as one of pop music's up-and-coming voices. While many fans disliked the song for its repetitive structure and high-pitched vocals, critics embraced Bieber's charming style.

The song became a massive hit on mainstream radio, charting in the Top 10 in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada. Bieber followed up the single's success with a music video that featured cameos from Drake, Lil Twist, and Tinashe.

However, the 3.9 million digital downloads and 1.5 billion streams on Spotify weren't enough to silence the massive wave of hate that Bieber faced due to the track. The music video is currently the most disliked music video on Youtube—and the platforms' fourth-most disliked video in general. For two years, it was also the most viewed video on the website.

Bieber himself has also admitted that "Baby" is far from his favorite song he's ever written or performed. In an interview with Amazon Music, the pop star admitted: ""I remember hearing the song at first and not — you know I don't know if I'm supposed to say this, but I'll just say it — not being super in love with the song,"

Bieber recalls his then-manager Scooter Braun convincing him that once he put his vocals to the track, it would be a hit. "When I got my voice on it, I immediately was just like you know, 'This is such a special record.'"

"Baby" may have topped the ranking of this century's worst songs, but it certainly wasn't the only dud in competition. Rihanna's "Hard", Fergie's "Fergalicious", and LMFAO's "Sexy And I Know It" followed closely behind, with Nicki Minaj's controversial hip-hop track "Anaconda" closing the list in tenth place.
